      Interview

Save yourself some time and do not bother applying here as a designer unless you speak Portuguese. Their entire design department has been outsourced to Brazil including the art director. They are wasting local candidates' time and misleading us by saying they are based in Canada when their design team is actually based in Brazil. I looked at some of their designer's portfolios, and I can say with confidence they were not hired based on the strength of portfolios alone. There are some portfolios that are very lacking, and the only common thread was they are all Brazilian. I feel like they wasted my time with the lengthy questionnaire and the interviews when all they really wanted to know was whether I spoke Portuguese. I hope they see this review and choose to become more mindful and respectful of candidates' time. Like the other person who posted here, I was also ghosted after two interviews. I reached out to inquire whether they had gone with another candidate and received no reply. If a company is willing to ask you to fill out a lengthy questionnaire then the least they could do is answer ONE of your questions.

We’re sorry to hear this was your impression, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. We’d like to clarify that Dog and Pony Studios is a Canadian company, and our design team is made up of talented professionals from several countries, not exclusively from any one region. English proficiency is required for all of our roles, but Portuguese (or any other language) is not a hiring factor. We evaluate every candidate based on skill, experience, and fit for the work. We also want to note that our hiring process is entirely human-reviewed. We don’t use AI screening tools because we believe every candidate deserves fair and thoughtful consideration. The trade-off is that this can sometimes make the process a little longer, but we’re continually working to improve both our speed and communication. We understand how much time and effort goes into applying and interviewing, and we strive to make that experience respectful and worthwhile for everyone. We’ve also followed up directly to ensure any miscommunication was addressed personally. We wish you the best in your search and truly appreciate your feedback. — Dog and Pony Studios
