I applied in response to an ad for a copyeditor. I have more than 25 years of experience. They required a test, which I took, although it took more time than usual. They responded that they liked what I did. Then I had two interviews. They offered me a part-time contractual position at a good hourly rate and said someone would be in touch to onboard me for a project, that it might be awhile but the project would start in about a month. Then they had me give permission for a background check, which is unusual in editing. I received an email showing I was listed for certain jobs and to give my availability, but I never received onboarding information and so not access the site. I inquired as to what was going on. I got a short, curt message saying they were going in a different direction, and not proceeding with the project or future collaboration. I asked for an explanation. Some woman said my background check was delayed, so the work was given to someone else. This was a lie, since I received a notice it was sent to them just days after the availability request and well before the start date I was given. There is nothing negative in my background and I have a 2nd career with certifications that require no problematic background. Dragonfly Editorial took up a lot of my time and led me down the proverbial garden path, with a rude and dishonest ending. Don’t waste your time.
