      Automation Engineer Interview

      10 Mar 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Ottawa, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Embotics (Ottawa, ON) in Jan 2019

      Interview

Let me preface by saying, Embotics is the type of company to interview you, tell you you are the only candidate to answer the technical part of the interview correctly, only to have senior management tell you that they are still learning what value the QA team brings to the rest of the engineering team. The interview process consisted of 2 parts: a phone interview with the hiring manager and an in-person interview where you meet the team. I did well at every point of the interview process, including at one point being told I was the only candidate to answer the technical question correctly, which was embarrassingly just a 'implement fizz-buzz'. After you do well enough, you will meet with the senior management where they ask you standard resume and behavioral questions and why you would make a good fit. As mentioned above, senior management was very hesitant in giving any sort of complimentary comments regarding the QA team, which is odd since you would think that a senior colleague who is looking to hire a new employee would be more complimentary and positive about his own company. Long story short, I did not get the position but ended up getting a position with a better company two weeks later. If you value your time and don't want to work for individuals who think developers are the only ones that add value, avoid this company. I sure am glad I did.
