      Investment Consultant Interview

      13 Mar 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Long Beach, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Long Beach, CA) in Feb 2020

      Interview

Contacted by headhunter via LinkedIn. Made a pitch for the position of Investment Councilor and the benefits of not having to build a book of business with a base salary with bonus and benefits. Had a brief phone interview via phone with a representative with Fisher about my professional background lasted about 45 minutes. Received an email to fill out an online application and authorize a full background check by Sterling. Scheduled an on-site interview within 3 weeks in Plano Texas. They provided transportation, lodging and a stipend for meals during the stay. I toured the faculty and eventually interviewed with three individuals culminating with the hiring manager which included a conversation about my opinion on the current market conditions in an effort to evaluate my competency. The entire process lasted three hours and at the end the hiring manager asked me if I have thought about places to live in the area and I said I had. He recommended that I drive to the area he resided in before I went to the airport later in the day (I took this a good sign I had secured an offer). About one week later I received a communication from the recruiter that they opted not to tender an offer (WHAT?) while not providing any feedback (which is standard these days) needless to say I was surprised based on actions of the hiring manager. A year and a half later an internal recruiter contacted me again for the same position at the same location. I informed her I already interviewed and they declined to hire me. She stated she was aware and encouraged me to go through the process once more. I proceeded with the process in mid February 2020 and everything was the same with one minor detail where the hiring manager actually participates in a “mock call” with you as a client of Fisher Investments and asks questions about the current market conditions and what they should do with their account based on that. Again, received a call within a few days with a notification they would pass on tendering me an offer. However, they said I could reapply in 6 months and start the process over (care to think of what my response was). This company is something else and considering this last go around I would not recommend working for this company. The manager at the hotel said they constantly have candidates stay there during their interviews. I have over 16 years professional experience in this industry and as a condition of employment you will eventually lose your licenses as the Investment Councilor as Fisher will not hold them for you which seems odd to me considering you are talking to clients daily.

      Application

I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Plano, TX)

      Interview

It was fairly drawn out and long. It seems they really need you to fit just one mold, and are determined to weed you out if you can't. Overall I would prefer a little more freedom in how I conduct myself.
