I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Gap in May 2012
Interview
I applied online with Gap and submitted a resume and cover letter. I heard from them within a week or so. They called me to set up a interview for the following week. I went to the interview dressed in black straight leg jeans, loafers, a nice long purple t-shirt under a Gap black blazer with white detailing (which I mentioned during one of my interview questions). I was greeted by a sweet and upbeat manager and taken in the back to a small room to speak with her and another manager. They both asked good questions pertaining to my background in customer service and what I liked about the brand. Then they asked me to pick out two outfits that would describe my personal style. Later I was asked by one of the managers, pretending to be a customer, to help her in choosing an outfit for her "husband". All around the interview probably took no more than 30 minutes. It seemed to have a positive feel throughout. However, I was contacted within a few days that they were not going to hire me. I think my not having actual retail experience might have been the deciding factor. I did very much appreciate them getting back to me with an email in a timely manner.
Group interview with other candidates with the store manager. Arrive at the store and wait for other candidates. Then interview happens in break room and it lasted roughly about 30-60minutes
It was very easy, one in person interview with the general manager and then I was accepted! Mainly personality and behavioral questions were asked, and I think enthusiasm on my end helped the most.
Application
I interviewed at Gap (Los Angeles, CA)
Interview
It was a group interview of about 10-12 people. If I remember correctly they take you to the back, the stock room, and ask almost everyone the same question. The interview lasted about 30 minutes.
