I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gap (Torrance, CA) in June 2010
Interview
I applied online and got called from the hiring manager about three weeks later for a one on one interview. My interview with the hiring manager went well, and she told me that she would first need to do a background check before considering me for a second interview. About four or five days later I received another call from the hiring manager, and again she asked if I would like to come in for a second interview with the store manager the day after. The interview with the store manager was pretty casual and laid-back; she said that she usually conducts second interviews just to get to know who the hiring manager chose. When I heard this I assumed that I had already gotten the job, because she did say that she really just wanted to get to know me before I begin working there. When I asked when I should expect to receive a call, she said in about a week or so because they still had other people they were interviewing.
I have not received a call from the hiring (or store) manager, although it's been well over a week past the time the store manager said I might receive a call. I even called to follow up, and the woman who spoke to me on the phone said that she would give my number to the hiring manager and the hiring manager would call me later on. No call from her to this day, and I must say I'm quite disappointed.
For a company that seems so sophisticated and organized, I would expect at least a follow up email from them instead of just letting me hang.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Describe a time where you helped someone pick out clothing.
Group interview with other candidates with the store manager. Arrive at the store and wait for other candidates. Then interview happens in break room and it lasted roughly about 30-60minutes
It was a group interview of about 10-12 people. If I remember correctly they take you to the back, the stock room, and ask almost everyone the same question. The interview lasted about 30 minutes.
It was very easy, one in person interview with the general manager and then I was accepted! Mainly personality and behavioral questions were asked, and I think enthusiasm on my end helped the most.
