      Market Research Associate Interview

      26 May 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Gartner (Austin, TX) in May 2016

      Interview

The recruiter emailed me a couple of days after I applied, asking to set up a phone interview. During the interview, she was very personable and easy to talk to. She didn't ask "gotcha" questions, which was refreshing. At the end of the call, she said she'd be reviewing my resume, and conferring with colleagues, and that she'd get back to me at the beginning of next week.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Gartner (Austin, TX) in Dec 2015

      Interview

I applied online remotely (from another state), and was contacted by the recruiter about a week later. She set up an initial phone interview for a week after that. The phone interview was very short, maybe 5 minutes total. She asked only a few questions before she decided that my work experience was not relevant enough to the job. I felt that was something that could have been determined in the resume screening process since nothing I said should have been a surprise looking at my resume and cover letter. Felt like a waste of time and gave me a false sense of thinking I had the opportunity to earn the position given that she did not get past very preliminary questions to see how I might perform in the role.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Gartner (Austin, TX) in Jan 2015

      Interview

Sent in resume via email, contacted by email for a phone interview, then went in for an in-person interview. The phone interview was pretty straightforward, about 20 minutes, although she did call early. The in-person interview was long - almost 3 hours. One person went through my resume and asked about every job listed - best part, worst part, biggest accomplishment, how did it prepare me for this job, etc. A second person then asked me more direct questions - strengths, weaknesses, why would I fit in here. They seem very concerned about corporate culture fit. None of this seemed too hard, but I didn't get an offer - I don't think I "fit" with their culture, which includes being in the office for 11 hours a day. If you want this job, be prepared to be at work all the time. That's not what I wanted. On the phone, they asked for my salary requirements, but didn't tell me at the time that it would be for 50 hours, not 40. Some of the interview questions seemed highly personal, like what my life goals were for the next 10 years (not just career, but life). The woman who interviewed me also dropped the F bomb twice. The interview also happened on a couch, which felt unprofessional to me. They were really low to the ground and it was hard to sit up straight. I wore a skirt (knee-length) and it was really awkward to "lounge" in a nice outfit.
