I applied through other source. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) (Phoneton, OH)
Interview
applied (via random drawing/sign-up at local unemployment office) in June...offered the job in October; due to 1,000s of applicants overloading GM for these factory jobs (which tend to be in local areas that are economically underdeveloped -- even if part of metro areas, in the grand scheme of things), GM forced you to apply not to them, but to/at the local unemployment office. If GM wanted to follow-up with you, they'd do so on their own (unknown) timetable. When you got the callback, it came by phone from a regional GM human resources call center. They'd do a maybe 10-15 minute phone interview with typical job interview Qs you'd get in a Walmart interview. If you answered well enough, in that same phone call, they'd ask you how soon you could report for work, if hired; if you'll submit to a drug test and background test; and (if you agreed) then book you for a time to come to the factory for the drug test.

I applied online. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) (Flint, MI)
Interview
Fast, completely over the phone. Did not do any type of interview what so ever in person. There were come employees that took drug test, it came back after they had been working for weeks already.
No interview just went in for drug test and came back for orientation. Helps to know someone so you're pulled in more quickly. Orientation was was very lax and lasted six days
