I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at HackEDU in June 2022
Interview
1.5-month long process, which consisted of 5 interviews, chaotic scheduling on their end, and eventually ghosting me.
It began with a recruiting company they hired to screen candidates. That was fine. I truly felt my experience aligned with the needs of the company.
A few days later on Thursday, the Marketing Manager (MM) reached out and asked to schedule an interview the next day because she was scheduled to be on vacation the following week. Our conversation went well; however, this was only the beginning of the chaos.
Whilst the MM was on vacation, I had to speak to the CMO and a different Marketing Manager from the company they had recently acquired. Both had to be scheduled on the same day. Again, the conversations went well, and I was told I would have to wait a week to hear back from the MM, who as I mentioned went on vacation.
A week passes, and I speak with MM on Tuesday. She asks me very specific, situational questions, which was fine. I was told the final decision for hire was between one other candidate and me. However, the decision could not be made until the CMO returns from vacation at the end of the current week, and they would need to speak the following Monday. Seriously?! Ok.
So the following Monday arrives, and I hear nothing, so I feel obligated to send the MM an email. She responds later in the day only to tell me there are "too many fires burning here at the moment" and that she "didn't realize the CMO was actually on vacation this week rather than last week," so she was going to "update me by the end of the week." RED FLAG.
Another week passed, and I sent another email asking for any changes or updates, and I got nothing. No response back, no declining to move forward, no consideracy for all the time, and some money I LOST/WASTED to have these 5 interviews where I thought I was practically fingertips away from a hire.
Advice to leaders: Get better at hiring or get out.
