      Senior Software Developer Interview

      27 Sept 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Hatch (Toronto, ON) in Sept 2022

      Interview

Typical phone screen with programming trivia questions, easy technical algo question, and vague system design. One weird part, they repeated one question (not my focus area) from an earlier interview during subsequent interviews to check if I "researched" things between interviews. Well, I was out of town for the weekend between interviews - visiting family. Sorry. No i did not have time to research weak areas. Maybe provide clear instructions if that's what you want to happen by the next interview. Don't just hope for a serendipitous moment to spontaneously occur and indicate I'm a qualified candidate. Developers are real people who are busy outside of work hours with non-programming things. Anyways, a couple of the existing developers were very friendly and we had some good down to earth conversations. Overall it was pretty easy. If you want an offer though, brush up on lots of useless information outside of your expertise. It will go a long way towards pretending you're an expert in things you'll never need - I mean, getting an offer.
