In-store Warehouse Worker - Full Serve Interview

      16 June 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at IKEA in June 2022

      Interview

The interview process was very straight-forward. Mark asked about my background and work history. Asked some questions about my work habits and any past interactions with co-workers and customers. He didn't ask any silly "if you could be this" questions, or over the top scenarios or hypotheticals; Mark stuck to the facts, and I really appreciated that. He was also very receptive to what I was looking for from an employer, and didn't just focus on what I could bring to the site. It was a very professional and pleasant experience.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at IKEA in May 2025

      Interview

Applied online and got an email two days later to schedule a phone screen. Phone screen was around 10 minutes and the recruiter asked me 4 questions. She was quiet and polite but really nice at the end when I "passed" it. She scheduled the in-person interview for two days later. After checking in at the lobby, I waited a few minutes before the interviewer showed up. Keep in mind it's not always who's name is in the info email the recruiter sent. The actual interview room is really small but nice which makes sense since it's IKEA. The interviewer was very nice and welcoming too. Most of the questions were situational questions you've answered if you've interviewed for a retail job before but this interview contained more questions (around 10) than any other retail interview I've done so come prepared with situational examples using the STAR method otherwise you'll be sitting there in awkward silence. This is critical but make sure to weave in any of Ikea's 8 key values into your answers. After the 20 min interview, I was offered a tour of the store as well as the work area I was applying to. I filled out a paper availability form and got to meet a manager and a supervisor which all seemed like good signs to me. I received the phone call offering me the job two days later - about a week and a half after initially applying. Very fast compared to what I heard about Ikea's hiring process. Even if I wasn't offered anything, I would still be very pleased with the whole process - especially the in-person interview. Very welcoming to spend 30 minutes on a candidate. Also got the impression the recruiter and interviewed were on my "side" and wanted me to get the job which I appreciate. That isn't always the case in my experience. One of my favorite interview processes and I've had quite a few by this point.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Phone screen: Tell me about your experience. Why did you apply to Ikea? What is your availability? What is your wanted pay range? In person: Tell me about your experience. Why did you apply to Ikea? What motivates you at work? What are your strengths? Have you ever been in a conflicting situation at work and how did you handle it? Tell me about a time where you provided feedback, coached, or mentored a peer to help them improve their performance at work? Tell me about a time when you were tasked with training/leading a fellow employee? Tell me about a time you supported your team during a challenging situation. Tell me about a time you collaborated with co-workers to solve a problem. What do you do when a new person starts in your department? What’s one thing that your previous job could have done better at?

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at IKEA (Columbus, OH) in Nov 2023

      Interview

I was given a several time slot options via email. I showed up 10 min early and a manager came to get me. We went to a meeting room. I applied for 2 different but similar job roles. I initially interviewed for a forklift position but the hours did not work with my life style, so the manager suggested another role that was very similar and met my previous experience as well. We went forward with questions. Then he took me on a small tour of where I would be working and what I would be doing. I asked several questions about the job and resposiblities etc.. He answered them all quickly and fully. He said that concluded the interview and asked if I had any questions. Then told me a rough estimate on when they will have a decision made. We shook hands, said thank you and went our seperate ways. Overall I was very happy with the process and how open everyone was and how fast the response times were from everyone involved.
