      Curriculum Designer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at IXL Learning (San Mateo, CA) in Jan 2017

      Interview

Phone call interview set up shortly after submitting, which was pleasant and rather basic. Completed the assignment they gave, which was more interesting than I thought it'd be. Submitted it, and received an invitation for a Skype interview, during which I talked about the assignment and ended with a brain teaser. Was asked a few days later to come in to the office for an in-person interview. They sent a sheet of suggestions for interviewing at IXL. I prepared for all of this, but none of it came up during the interviews as far as I could tell. Greeted by the recruiter on the day of the interview, then met with a couple people over Skype, which was rather odd I found. One of them included another brainteaser (note: performance on these actually isn't predictive of future success). Finally met with someone in person to be interviewed, and she was a bit cold and hard to read. Not sure if I had bombed by that point but she seemed like she was either purposefully aloof, withholding, or was simply elsewhere in her headspace. Lunch was perfectly pleasant with my then-to-be-coworkers. It wasn't to be, however. Received what appeared to be a form rejection not three days later, one which I couldn't reply to so as to ask for feedback, which was not a very nice move. I don't begrudge them their decision. I felt I was eminently qualified (PhD in relevant field, years of teaching experience, know people there, even have the "desired qualifications" they asked for on the job posting), but I actually don't have passion for edtech, which I think they detected. Would have been fine with it had they given me feedback, but leading me along to what seemed like the penultimate step only to reject me was less than charitable.

      Interview

Pretty straightforward. The recruiter will call you and ask some pre-screening question then you will be asked to complete a task within a week. The task consists of grammatical correction, alignment and information clarity.

      Interview

Had a phone screening which went well, followed by a work product. The instructions on the work product were overall very vague, and took a lot of guessing/assuming what they were looking for. It took me about 5 hours total, and I received a rejection email stating that no feedback would be given and with no further explanation.

      Interview

The interview consisted of a recruiter call. Then a 2nd call. Then a remote meeting via zoom where I was drilled with questions that didn't seem to math the role I applied for. Zero emotions shown. No smiles.
