      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at IXL Learning (Pittsburgh, PA) in Apr 2024

      Interview

I had a phone interview and was told I was going on to the second step. This was a take-home test that was sent immediately after the phone interview. I was told that after I completed the test, I would have a phone interview with a math team to discuss my responses. o this. I had 1 week to complete this and submitted it in less than a week. I spent long hours doing the tasks to ensure a quality product. I received an email early the next morning after the submission that this was the end of the road for my interview and that they decided to go a different route. I requested feedback and was told that unfortunately information on their interview evaluations could not be shared. The job is still posted online as actively recruiting. (April 2024). This is a total waste of time and I question what is being done with all the answers on candidates' take-home tests.

      Math Curriculum Designer Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at IXL Learning in July 2023

      Interview

This company’s “interviews” are a straight up SCAM to solicit free content from job seekers. First HR screening was a huge red flag. It took less than 5 minutes and the recruiter was just describing the interview process to me. She did not ask me one single question. I thought it was super odd that during my “screening,” the interviewer didn’t care to learn about my experience or why I applied. It was super rushed and just seemed like a formality. Within 5 mins of hanging up, she emailed me with the next step of the process, which was to schedule a 30 min phone interview with someone. The 30 min phone conversation was also very odd. It was unclear what his position was in relation to the role (it wasn’t the hiring manager) or who this person was —he only gave his first name (and again at the end, when I asked for his name he only said his first name which was a nickname). I think they do this to avoid being looked up on LinkedIn. This interview asked some questions about my experience but he seemed very rushed as well and super awkward. I was then asked to complete a SUPER extensive and long task. It asked you to write SO MANY questions, review some, provide feedback, and write answer explanations. It took me hours and hours and hours to complete. Mind you, I have 10 years of assessment writing experience from well-renowned curriculum publishers and high-stakes assessment organizations. I was given a template response from the recruiter saying I would not be moving forward. Now for the big reveal —this is the SECOND time this exact thing happened to me. I interviewed for a similar role a few years ago. I thought that maybe the first time, I didn’t submit a strong enough task. That’s why I spent a significant time on the task this second time around. But no, it is clear, especially after reading other interview reviews on Glassdoor, that IXL Learning is taking free labor from its interviewees and using it as their own intellectual property. It’s absolutely disgusting. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! This company should be reported for such terrible practices. I can’t believe they’re still getting away with this.

      Question 1

They force you to do a 14-task long “take-home test,” but this is just to exploit you for free labor.
