I applied online. I interviewed at Illumina in June 2022
Interview
First, it was a telephonic screening round from the hiring manager. Second round was with the HR to discuss salary details etc for the job.
The third round was a 4-5 hour round where I was asked to give a PhD presentation. After that I was interviewed by 5 people.

Question 1
Questions were very technical and I was impressed by their depth and breadth of knowledge. One interview round was purely HR but all others were related to my PhD work.
Common questions:
1. Give an example to show you have used root cause analysis
2. Have u used model-based optimization?
3. How to identify key system parameters?
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Illumina (San Diego, CA)
Interview
1. Initial phone interview with HR rep and hiring manager and sometimes additional team member 2. On-site interview or second phone interview with multiple team members and project members, HR and hiring manager
Phone interview with recruiter, than "virtual onsite" panel interview with breakouts ~6hrs. That was pretty much it. Then never heard anything back from the recruiter. Ghosted, so cold. Why is there a 30 word minimum here? I am just typing randomly at this point..
The overall interview process was smooth with good communication. The interviewers were very polite and tried to make the interviewee feel relaxed all the time.
The recruiter provided detailed information about my questions with quick responses.
