I applied online. I interviewed at Key Stages Online in Mar 2026
Interview
Extremely unprofessional interview process. I was asked before the interview to create a marketing plan based off a creative brief that would take approx. 2-3 hours to complete and would be a big part of the interview. I did so, and it was discussed for maybe 5 minutes… Extremely disappointed as I put a lot of time and effort into it and it was basically discarded immediately.
I then had to do an English and Maths test (English I understand, but maths??). Was very strange.
I then found out I was unsuccessful as I saw them re-advertise the role on here and Indeed 2 full days before I was contacted. If you are going to make people take 3 hours out of their weekend for a creative assessment and 2 hours of out the work day for an interview (which i had to take off of work) and then not have the decency to contact them is extremely unprofessional.
One of the most baffling and ridiculous interviews of my life.
The interview in total was nearly 2.5 hours long which is very long for any interview, let alone for an entry level position (as was advertised). I was also asked what appeared to be the same question worded different ways multiple times (e.g. Why are you a good fit for this role, what strengths do you have that make you suited to this role, why would you be good in this role etc).
As I do not currently live in Solihull, I was asked multiple times, both during the initial telephone screening and the in-person interview, whether I would be willing to relocate. Each time, I confirmed that I would and explained that I have relocated previously. Despite this, the question was revisited repeatedly, which gave the impression that my response was not being taken at face value. I was also asked what my parents thought about me potentially moving, which felt irrelevant given that I am a fully grown adult who has lived away from home before.
The end of the interview also included a surprise Maths and English test which was very strange, particularly as the role itself does not involve any maths. I have a good GCSE in maths listed on my CV, along with a completed degree, so it was unclear why this additional assessment was necessary.
I was also asked many personal questions (e.g. what my parents do for a living, questions about my current employer and what I think of them etc), which felt like they were prying for something and assessing my answers based on my personal background.
Prior to the interview, I was asked to complete 2 tasks. In the interview, I was asked if I had used AI (I hadn't), then revealed to me that my task came back as being heavily AI generated. Not only was this offensive, but it was completely untrue, and it felt like I was being accused of cheating.
To top everything off, after the interview, I didn't hear anything back for nearly 3 weeks. It was only days after I sent a follow up message that they responded telling me they wouldn't be taking my application further.

Question 1
What are your weaknesses without saying you're a perfectionist?

Interview
The interview was very long, (2 hours in total) they require you to attend a first interview with an exam (they state that it is ks2 easy exam) but it is actually very rigorous and 11+ question based. Even if you’re successful at the interview if you don’t get a perfect score they do not offer you an opportunity to continue with the interview process.
In my case I wasn’t familiar with the questions and did not expect to be tested on my knowledge even though I have multiple degrees and a vast teaching experience. No other teaching role with require you to complete an standardised exam and base the hiring process on that. I was informed I’d be told a day or two after the interview but because I wasn’t successful it was crickets from them.
Instead of familiarising and training staff about the curriculum of their tutoring agencies they expect you to come already prepared which I find disappointing and an outdated approach to hiring. Overall, unless you are extremely familiar with grammar schools and their tests don’t bother going to the interview.
