This was an informal chat (or so I thought) set up through networking. We met at a coffee shop. I hadn't even applied for the role. The whole time I was thinking I'm not sure I'm quite right. At the end this woman told me to apply. I spent THREE hours crafting the resume and cover letter to match. And in 10 minutes I got a rejection. And then 6 weeks later I got the real hand-written (snort) rejection from this woman. Why not say something like, "It was so nice meeting you. Thanks for spending your time. I'm not sure this role [that you haven't applied for] would be quite right for you. If something that would opens up, I'll let you know. Thanks. Bye!"
