      Marketing Internship Interview

      15 May 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Geneva
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at L'Oréal (Geneva) in May 2017

      Interview

First I had a 45-minute Skype call with a recruiter that tested basic knowledge of L'Oréal, previous experience, motivation and typical HR aspects. After this, I was invited to a Marketing Internship Challenge, which is just a fancy word for Assessment Centre. We were eight applicants on the day, split in two groups. The day consisted of several tasks: 1) Describe yourself using a celebrity (talk for 2 minutes) 2) Negotiation exercise where you were given a marketing project and had to defend the required budget against the projects given to your group mates 3) Group exercise where you had to develop the marketing strategy of a new product (where to place it, where/how to promote it, how to price it, which advertising channels to use, etc.) and present it as a group 4) Excel test, which was unbelievably easy and I don't know what they were trying to test. You basically just had to understand a small data table and say which brand/retailer made the most revenue, etc. 5) Individual marketing interview, where you had to choose among L'Oréal products presented to you and tell how you would market them 6) HR interview that was only personal fit

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What do you know about L'Oréal? Why would you want to work for L'Oréal and not for other FMCG companies? Why did you choose to learn that particular language? Would you be willing to market products dedicated to female hairstyling (as a man)? Why? What makes L'Oréal's products better than competitor products? Why Geneva? Where have you been creative in the past? What skills do you have that would make you successful in marketing?

      Difficult interview

      Application

      I applied online. I interviewed at L'Oréal

      Interview

The recruiter was late first of all, and also she literally asked me the most odd question regarding if I had a dream job which job would it be? Girl I’m applying for the job right now, there is no other job I would want. She also seemed just not interested in the interview, like what’s up with these lame recruiters? Blah blah blah, next!

It was relatively easy but they're looking for specific answers. Make sure you talk with someone who works there. They want to hear that you are curious about learning and driven.
