      Retail Supervisor Interview

      9 Sept 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Lush (London, England) in Apr 2021

      Interview

Probably the worst experience with an interview I've ever had. I applied online and had a virtual interview. The first round was with the manager and assistant manager of the store. This interview was fine. The second round was a group interview with other candidates on Zoom. Only one assessor was present for the second round interview. They put us into break out rooms and were partly assessing us based on our performance during the break out rooms. However, as there was only one assessor and about 5 different break out rooms, the assessor was jumping in and out of the rooms. This meant that ideas others had previously voiced when the assessor was not present were being stolen by other candidates when the assessor came into the room. Another candidate in my break out room stole one of my ideas and posed it as their own when the assessor was in there. It was very frustrating. Another thing that was difficult was that all candidates apart from myself worked at the store that had the supervisor vacancy. This meant that the vibe of the interview was quite uncomfortable and also meant that when we were tasked with coming up with sales promotions, they used ideas already instilled in the store. I also feel like the assessor treated the other candidates more favourably as they had an existing relationship. I feel like I was put at a disadvantage and not given equal chance as the other candidates I've had interviews before where people already work there. It is common practice for them not to voice that they already work there. The interview was also excessively long, it took over 2 hours, for a part time role. Finally, what made it even worse was that after the interview you could request feedback. I did not request feedback because I knew I hadn't got the role and by the end I didn't actually want to work there anymore. However, about a month after telling me I was unsuccessful, they emailed me with "feedback". It said that I had "done really well up until I had told the group I was hungover". These words never left my mouth and were untrue. After some investigation, it turned out that the unsolicited feedback was sent by the somebody who had not been present for the interview and was writing up the assessor's notes and misread their handwriting. A task in the interview was to do role plays and my role play scenario was that a colleague had come in very hungover. It was deeply unprofessional and offensive, and illustrates that their interview process is chaotic and needs to be reviewed. I will never apply to work at Lush again.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

We had to do role plays of how to talk to assistants in difficult situations and giving feedback. We had to come up with sales strategies and incentives. We had to come up with community engagement strategies. We had to do a sales pitch for a product.
