The HR manager conducted a phone screen and was very pleasant. We discussed salary fairly immediately and my modest nonprofit salary was way above what they were willing to pay. Nonetheless, I proceeded with the interview because I believed in the mission of the organization. I next spoke with the hiring manager and I thought to myself "wow, she would be awesome to work for!" - I was given a timed assessment which was writing emails and distilling information. I guess I failed because after that they said they "wanted to go in a different direction." I asked for feedback and they refused. The whole thing made me sad. I hope they find the person they're looking for.
