I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Aurora, OH) in June 2012
Interview
I applied online and was called for a phone interview the next day. The interview lasted approx. an hour and was very positive. Then I had a second phone interview/chatted with someone about life in Cleveland. She convinced me to come visit the area and see if I liked it.
First of all, the company is located in the middle of BFE! I cannot possible imagine driving from Cleveland proper to state farm road every day and especially not in winter. I arrived for my interview at 9am (it was a solid 1 hour drive from downtown Cleveland), and it did not conclude until after 4pm. Not once was I offered a glass of water or shown where the restrooms were. People were generally unfriendly and completely disinterested. The day started off with an 1 1/2 hour tour of the facility where I learned that one of the roles of the manager is to approve every single email that the "staff" send out before doing so (micro-manage much?). Then I was interviewed by two more people - these people talked about everything from my background to topics completely unrelated to the position. I then had lunch with two interesting and kind employees. Lunch was followed by a 30+ minute wait in the "lobby" and then a horrible interview with another "manager." The interviewer sat hunched over in his chair, rolling his eyes the entire time. He could not list three positive things about working for the company. He basically gave me 45 minutes straight to answer questions that he could only provide vague answers for. He was condescending and rude. I met with the HR person at the end who was perky and energetic until I told her that I decided that the Cleveland location wasn't a good fit for me and that I would like to be considered for a different location. As soon as those words came out of my mouth, her attitude completely changed and I knew I would never get offered the position. You could't have paid me a million dollars to work there!

Question 1
What are the top three reasons we should consider you for this position?

Interview
The interview process was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. I really appreciated that the discussions were fully behavioral, allowing me to naturally draw on my past experiences. Furthermore, the company truly goes out of its way to treat you like a VIP throughout the entire visit, covering a remarkably nice hotel stay and providing a generous stipend to ensure you are completely comfortable.

One behavioral interview with a recruiter and then a day-long onsite interview at the Elmhurst IL location. Superday has two behavioral interviews, walkarounds and more but feels like you're being observed everyday.
