      Junior Financial Management Assistant Interview

      10 Apr 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Leicester, England
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at NHS (Leicester, England) in Feb 2018

      Interview

With the interview confirmation there was an overview of what it will consist: an excel test, numeracy competency assessment and an interview "of a fairly standard format but there will be some focus on the current issues facing the NHS and your views on these". Started off with the excel test where you are alone in a room with a computer and calculator. Fairly straightforward pivot and lookups. However, there are some basic math questions. As the email suggested numeracy competency is assessed separately, I was trying to find ways to use excel to answer the question. After this, I found out the interview was next so I guess that was all of the numeracy test! Interview was again basic competency questions, some to test accounting knowledge and others to see your understanding of the NHS's current climate. I found the interviewers not the friendliest but not intimidating, a bit uninterested. After this, you get the chance to informally chat to current placement students and ask questions in a separate room. It was from this that I became certain this role isn't for me. It seems repetitive, with limited scope of responsibilities and they didn't show enthusiasm about the placement. So I was not sold, if anything I was put off. Found out a few days after I was not successful. I asked for feedback which turned out to be a template as a few others got the same. They only add a bit in the middle where they choose any question you showed some weakness on and use that as a reason. Mine was because I "just" needed "a bit more" emphasis on me and my role, despite the example I gave not concentrating on anyone but my role. This has definitely tainted my views of applying for a future role in any finance NHS department although I'm sure they aren't all the same.
