I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Charlotte, NC) in June 2008
Interview
I was called for an interview. The interview should last 40-50mins. If it's shorter than you didn't expand enough. They ask standard interview questions. "Tell me about a time you worked with people of a different background. Tell me about a time you showed leadership." Research the job you are applying for and know something about the company. Retail is a fast paced environment that requires you to adapt. Be able to explain how you would fit in this environment and with the company. Act enthusiastic for the position. Practice before the interview and be prepared. Know what you are going to say ahead of time. Don't be overwhelmed by the interview. Answer the questions directly highlighting your strengths. Relax and have fun.
The work culture is independent. Each department is run like a separate entity. You are your own boss. There is potential to make a lot of money. If you receive the job expect a couple days of training where you come in and learn the operating systems, but that's all the training you will receive. The rest is learn as you go. Expect to hear back within a week.
So easy, I went to a job fair and was hired on the spot. They need people in the kids department, that's the easiest section to get into. They just ask about your personality and who you are.
Was inside Barton creek mall, hiring manager was prompt and clear with questions ranging from how I would handle difficult customers, to my personal experiences that could apply to the job.
