Multiple choice Hackerrank. Fairly simple.
Behavioral interview 20-30 mins. Chill.
Open ended coding Harckerrank. Haven't done this yet.
Technical Interview, partially reviewing your code from the last stage.
2-stage design interview.
Final behavioral interview.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Optiver (Sydney) in May 2025
Interview
Completed online hackerrank assessment. Quite easy compared to other Quant dev assessment especially if you have done any university course on digital system design. Got through to HR interview. This was an informal 15-20 minute interview asking how I found out about the Optiver role, some behavioural questions and then they had a question about my FPGA experience. I notably only had FPGA experience in a university setting, which likely hindered my chances. Easy and quick process, disappointed with lack of feedback though.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What experience do you have outside of university with FPGA?
Good if a bit disorganised, behavioural interview was the same as other companies - asking classic recruiting questions. The technical interviewer was rushing through the interview but was overall nice. The interview difficulty was medium, though did not get an offer as was not prepared enough for interviews.
