      Graphic Designer Interview

      29 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at PHS Hairscience

      Interview

They gave a brief, I did the brief before I went into the interview with them. However interview went badly in the beginning and I soon became uninterested in joining the company. The interviewer was very unprofessional. For the first 3 minutes, she didn't on the video camera. Later on, when she turned on the video camera, all I could see was only her eyes and not her face. I was essentially speaking to her eyes for 10 minutes, before she turned the camera off again. I find this action very unprofessional. I would have been alright if she had let me know that she was more comfortable with the camera turned off. Besides the poor body language, when clarifying with her whether this role was part time or full time role. She immediately said I was unsuitable for the full time role due to my portfolio and did not feedback on my case-study, as to why I was not suitable. When I asked her to elaborate the job description for part timers and full timers, she proceeded to say that the part-timer briefs are more simple and straightforward. She said they would mostly be doing ah-hoc and month to month promotion work, with more social media. Pivoting to the social media aspect, I asked her what kind of social media post content they were looking to post. Is there a cohesive branding as I was keen to learn more. Instead of elaborating, she mentioned that their recent social media post were just aesthetic stock photos backgrounds for the month of September and that the theme changes every month. I was curious if there was a strong brand identity or colour scheme to stick to but she just 'trivalised' it to a thematic change every month. I proceeded to elaborate on my case-study, but she had an 'seemingly uninterested tone', that I may have picked up wrongly. But due to previous conversations mentioned above, I became disinterested due to lack of information and seemingly 'unprofessional behaviour' from the interviewer. Hope that more clarification can be given from the interviewer on the job scope of a part time employee, working hours etc. Given that the part time position has to be in office 4 days a week, but stay below 35 hours. No proper organisation structure and disinterested interviewer. I would have loved it if she showed interested in my background and asked a few questions on my portfolio just to set an 'amicable and friendly' mood to the interview. Unfortunately this was not my experience, it was an immediate reply that I'm not suitable for a full time role and let's talk about the case study.

      Question 1

Elaborate on your case study, is all she asked.
