I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Pachama in May 2022
Interview
The first stage of the interview was incredibly frustrating, slow and poorly designed. I was given a take-home assignment to work on raster data. I'd never worked on raster data before and I only had access to a very old machine without a dev environment so I had to spend a non-trivial amount of time setting it up to be able to even open the data files. Afterwards, I had a few clarification questions about the assignment, but it took multiple business days to get a response back.
At this point I gave up because it was a very slow process and unclear what the interview was actually testing for - access to a working and efficient personal computer? Ability to manipulate raster data? Actual algorithmic skill? If the latter, there are better ways to test for that, independent of a domain that requires a specific dev setup.
I did not get the impression that this company had put much thought into designing a solid interview process.
