      Research Interview

      26 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Pinterest in Oct 2021

      Interview

First, my interviewer did not call me at the time they were supposed to and they basically canceled my interview without a letting me know. I was rescheduled with another interviewer. It seemed that my interviewer had already decided during the first half of my interview that they would be rejecting me. They told me “it seems that this is one your first interviews and you need to practice more”. This was very distressing for me to hear in the middle of my interview. In spite of this, I continued to work on my code and finally I completed my code at 5 minutes before the end of my interview, but my interviewer didn’t even bother to tell me to run the code and see if this was working. Instead they told me “we are near the end and ask me any questions you have“. After they answered my question, they were about to stop the interview. But, I asked them to at least run my code and see if it’s working. I ran the code and it was perfectly working. When they saw that code was working, they started to ask some ML questions while it was already past 10:45 am (the scheduled time for the end of my interview). In general, it was very disappointing and unprofessional that my interviewer told me “it seems that it’s one your first interviews and you need to practice more”, and also did not care enough to ask me to run my code and I myself had to ask them if I can run my code.

      Interview

Zero pay transparency in the recruitment process! Absolutely terrible! The recruiter refused to move me forward in the recruitment process unless I told her my expected salary range. I asked her to give me a range and she refused even thought she kept asking me to tell her my pay expectations so as to “not waste anyones time”. I told her I didn’t feel comfortable giving her a number because the position is fully remote and depends on the market and I would like to learn more about the responsibilities of the role. She said I needed to give her a number ASAP or I couldn’t move forward to talk to the hiring manager. After some research, I got back to her with a salary range and said it’s negotiable. She didn’t respond and then sent me an automatic rejection. All around a terrible recruitment process. Train your recruiters better and provide pay transparency and don’t reject candidates automatically when you beg them for their salary expectations.

      Research Interview

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Pinterest

      Interview

A coding interview + ML interview + Hiring manager call. I passed the coding interview. After that, I was expecting ML interview but the recruiter abruptly told me that they will not move forward until a hiring manager is interested in my resume. Then, it was 4 weeks of ghosting and suddenly i was told 'my resume has been shared with multiple hiring managers and they've decided not to move forward'. At that time, I have invested so much in the process so I felt pretty down on that. I have no idea what the process would look like given this. But for a post-IPO company like Pinterest, my experience at this single time was very disappointed and unpleasant because the expectation was so confusing. Again, that might be the issue of one recruiter.
