I recently had an interview for the Senior Project & Program Manager, Internationalization position at Pinterest, and it was quite a curious experience. Unfortunately, the interviewer showed up a couple of minutes late and seemed more interested in talking about herself than engaging in a meaningful conversation with me. The majority of the interview consisted of STAR questions, one after another, with little opportunity to discuss anything beyond the scripted prompts.
It felt like the interviewer was going through the motions, as if she had already made up her mind before even hopping on the call. The experience was a bit bizarre, as she seemed disengaged and uninspired, which was surprising given Pinterest's reputation for aiming for extraordinary outcomes.
I was left with less than four minutes to ask questions, and it was clear that she couldn't wait to wrap up the call. While I appreciate the opportunity, the experience left me with a rather lukewarm impression of what is supposedly a dynamic and forward-thinking team.
Thank you, Pinterest, for the curious experience. Perhaps this was just an off day, but it left me wondering if this is reflective of the broader culture.
