      Software Engineer, Backend Interview

      7 June 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Montreal, QC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Plotly (Montreal, QC) in June 2023

      Interview

First an HR interview followed by a take home task which was not too difficult but it took me 4 5 hours to finish since I was not familiar with NestJS and GraphQL. Was reached out for a second round for a 1 hour technical interview with 2 of Senior team members. Had a relatively simple task and I solved it However the interviewer fixated on a small detail for TypeScript's generic type definition which I could not remember at the time. Did not hear back from them again until an automated rejection email. I reached out to them to get some feedback on what I can improve since I had to take 2 time offs to attend the meetings and spend hours on the take home test, but as I expected no answer.

      Question 1

Why do you want to work here? Background related questions. A TypeScript test on a coding platform.

      Software Engineer, Backend Interview

      24 July 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Plotly

      Interview

It wasn't great I spoke to the recruiter and he was friendly. We spoke about my experience, education, the whole lot. I then got asked to create a project using NestJs, GraghQL, and some more technology which I did. It was reviewed and I moved to the next step where I got into a technical assessment. I passed everything there as well. I then got a rejection email and what it really said was that "The candidate has not worked on complicated tasks or has not proved himself working on complicated tasks" Now I don't have anything against rejections, but if you felt a candidate does not have enough experience, why did you put a candidate through 4 rounds of interviews and 4 weeks of preparation?
