I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at ProfitWell (Boston, MA) in Apr 2018
Interview
This was the entire process:
Phone screen with a non-technical recruiter
On-site coding project that lasted all day
Present that project to other engineers
Received an offer within a week after interview
Everyone I met were great people, with one exception. The CPO made my experience one of the most horrible interviews I've ever been on. I was constantly interrupted and talked over during the panel interview. After being low-balled with a salary offer, I was left insulted, and asked inappropriate questions when asking for a more reasonable salary. For example, things like: "Why? Are you having money problems?".
The CPO tried to convince me to take a significantly lower salary because they have some made up policy. The offer was the very lowest of my range and he wanted me to "prove it to them" that I was worth more. Not only was that inappropriate, but that's not how these things work, especially when you have better offers in hand. When we disagreed on certain things I was left feeling mocked and laughed at.
I'm not sure why the CPO is allowed to talk to new hires like this, because he was such a red flag for me. Also, I got the impression that they aren't an Agile team, and might not be properly testing things. It seemed like the CPO had something against Agile practices and also testing in general. Everyone else were very capable and smart people though. I think the most important thing for anyone interested in this company is to really understand how often they will have to interact with the CPO. He was definitely not someone I would want to work with.
