These guys may be using the interview process to collect ideas from candidates without intending to hire.
I applied for the position online and received an invitation to come in for an interview. The hiring manager asked me to bring 4 ideas for beauty videos for the company. I'd heard that companies sometimes do this as a way to collecting ideas for free without actually intending to hire a candidate (and I'm also a marketing consultant outside of my day job, so I typically get paid for my ideas).
I politely explained my concern to the hiring manager and asked if they'd be willing to be a bit flexible on the assignment, suggesting that I critique ideas from other candidates or present examples of ideas from my current marketing roles, as a way of demonstrating my creativity. I also have two websites I'd shared with them -- one of my work as a photographer / videographer and another that's a portfolio website with examples of my work in marketing, video, photography, branding, etc. I have over 10 years of experience.
The hiring manager replied that sharing 4 ideas is a prerequisite for being considered and told me that I'm not a good fit. I suspect that they may use the interview process as an "idea mill" but hopefully not? Proceed with caution.
