I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Reflectiz (Tel Aviv-Yafo) in June 2024
Interview
4 stages: hr call, tech review video call, home assignment, on-premise interview.
I was let go after home assignment.
I was give specific instructions (both in the assignments text and the zoom interview):
"You can write the project using any language or library you like. We at Reflectiz use TypeScript on Node.js, but you can use Python, Go, or any other well-known language. Your code should maintain the standards of the language of your choice. Use any database you like."
I have written a solution in Python and was very honest and forthcoming regarding the fact that I have no experience with TypeScript - both in the HR and the tech interviews.
After a little longer than a week I received a phone call that I did not pass the assignment.
I then asked for a feedback so I could do better in the future - and got radio silence.
A week later I figured I'd ask again if I could get a feedback.
The answer was:
"First of all, thank you for your time and investment.
The assignment should be written in node and typescript and not in python
That's why we chose to move forward with candidates who write code in the language we work in.
Good luck in the future."
I was never disrespected in that way on an interview process before.
It seems like the interviewer haven't even looked at the solution once he noticed it's written in Python - even though the assignments states clearly I can use any on the languages mentioned in the quote above - Plus I was very open about not knowing TS.
After stating that quote and asking about it the interviewer simply wrote back:
"I usually say in the interview to write in TS in the interview itself
But after the feedback from you I will make sure to change the scope of the task.
Sorry for the inconvenience and good luck in the future."
Which is a lie in my case - Again I mentioned multiple times I have zero experience with TS.
