      Software Developer Interview

      26 May 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dayton, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Reynolds and Reynolds (Dayton, OH) in May 2018

      Interview

I submitted my resume online and received an email from a recruiter within a week wanting to know if I was still interested in the position. I was so I was scheduled for an aptitude at the Dayton Ohio office. They also emailed me a link and password to complete an application and assessment test online. Completing both takes about 2 hours total. The test covered various topics including math, general knowledge, business terms, ethics, word association, etc. The in person test is multiple choice and consists of 3 sections that are each timed. The 1st section is identifying different patterns using the letters of the alphabet. You only get 15 minutes to complete this. The 2nd is spatial pattern identification, similar to something you'd find on an IQ test. Again you get 15 minutes to complete this section. Last, there is a math word problem section and you're given 30 minutes to complete it. No calculators are allowed and you are given one piece of scrap paper to work out the problems. Don't bother bringing in your phone as they will take it prior to you entering the testing area. You receive 1 point for each correct answer and they deduct .4 for each incorrect answer. You are not penalized for leaving a question blank. The test is difficult and an archaic method of employment screening. Once you complete the test you check in with the receptionist and she will either tell you that someone will be in contact with you or ask you to stay to speak to a recruiter. I was 1 of only 4 asked to stay to speak with a recruiter so I guess they deemed my results acceptable. The interview with the recruiter was pretty standard. They asked about past school and work experience, your strengths and weaknesses, career goals, etc. One question I found odd was that they asked what the absolute minimum salary requirements I had to work at Reynolds. We didn't move on until I gave a dollar amount. Saying my salary requirements were negotiable when we came to that phase of the process wasn't acceptable apparently. From there we discussed jobs that the recruiter felt were perfect for me. It doesn't seem to matter what position you apply for. They will decide what job best suits you based off of your test results and interview. We discussed 3 different jobs and I was told that a manager from the IT department would be in touch with me within a few days. They asked me if I had some more time to fill out another section to the application. The additional questions were some of the most intrusive, unethical questions I have ever experienced when applying for a job. They wanted to know my parents names, jobs, and city of residence. They wanted my spouse's name and employer. They even asked for the same information for my in-laws. They asked for the names of any of my dependents. They wanted a breakdown with dates of all the cities I've lived in. THEY EVEN ASKED FOR THE MAKE AND MODEL OF THE CAR I OWNED AND HOW MUCH MY CAR PAYMENT WAS! They asked what my spouse's ambitions were for me. Each question threw up a red flag. There is absolutely no reason for a potential employer to ask any of these questions! This is nothing more then a way for Reynolds to determine your age, marriage status, and if you have kids. It's much cheaper to provide healthcare to a single person fresh out of college then a family. Needless to say, I wasn't what they were looking after filling out this additional questionnaire and I received an auto generated email at 5:59 am a few days later saying I hadn't been chosen to move to the next step in the process. All in all, this was a colossal waste of time for all involved. Reynolds constantly has a large amount of job openings listed. This interview process should set off red flags to everyone that something is not right there. This is not how a normal company recruits talent in 2018.

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Reynolds and Reynolds (Houston, TX) in June 2025

      Interview

Heard from a recruitment member via email upon applying. Following a response confirming I wanted to continue with the application, I was given an "IQ" assessment to finish. Upon scoring well and within the time frame we were asked to complete a skills assessment to match us to our supposed "dream placement". After completing all of these assessments, the company did not reach out for more than a week after which they finally sent a short rejection email with no feedback or information. Reviews on other platforms support this type of response, seemingly typical behavior.
