The HR did not tell me it a contractor role until very last minute. Yep, that's how frustrating it gets.
I've gone through five rounds of interviews: two Skills Reviews, in my case, conference interpretation tests; the other three were personality tests conducted by current team members. The difficulty was average.
What really pissed me off is that I've made it clear I was looking for a full-time position at the begining. I was assured it was a FTP. However, the HR did not mention anything about the contractor thing. After 6 weeks and 5 interviews, I was told I got an offer, and was sent to talk to the same HR about more details. Before I started, he made a big announcement, "to make it clear, this is a contractor role, you are not going to sign with Riot Games, but another company called XXX". I was shocked, he apologized, as if it was a careless mistake. But why did he make such an announcement before I brought up anything? He explained Riot Games do not hire translators internally because they don't have a career path for them (which contradicted with what he said on Day 1 when I asked about the career path). Also, instead of getting a compensation package, translators will be paid by hourly rate (which translates into: no paid vacation, no unlimited PTO, different medical insurance plans).
Good job making a potential employee feeling unfairly treated!
