      Software Engineer Interview

The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Roblox (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2018

      Interview

The interview process began with a call with the engineering manager who was rather late to the call . After the get to know you portion of the interview I was moved on the the technical screening which is performed by and outsourced company. This interview consisted of a "recorded" video call and a codepen session with said interviewer. This style of interview is less than ideal for assessing the skills of a technical individual as it is a pressured situation (coding with someone watching your keystrokes) while remembering that your face and voice are being recorded at all times. This recording is sent off to Roblox along with any code written giving them a completely impersonal experience. White boarding during an interview with the team you might work with is great because everything has context on both side of the spectrum, this format throws that all out the window. During the technical portion while i had the correct logic solution I made a small syntax error that is rather hard to pick out. The interviewer told me they offer a one time try again with no questions asked but I had lost my interest after this experience. This process may work well for junior developers but will drastically skew the results of intermediate and or senior developers. TLDR; give me a project and free time to build something interesting I am proud of, explain what I did and why i did it rather than this factory interview process.

Interview consisted of two leetcode style questions and two "games" that tested problem solving and optimization. Coding questions were of medium/hard difficulty. The games were difficult as the instructions given were terrible and unintuitive.
