      Product Manager Interview

      27 Aug 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Roblox

      Interview

Recruiter screen followed by a call with the hiring manager. This was followed by an on-site presentation with a panel of product people, and 1:1's with the rest of the team. During my interview presentation, I felt very uncomfortable and uneasy with the way I was being asked questions. In my introductory slide describing my background, I was asked how long I've been at my current company for. When I answered, one interviewer in particular seemed extremely bothered by my rather short tenure. I gave specific reasons why I was currently interviewing - but to this person, it was an unsatisfactory answer. This continued throughout the entire session of the presentation process, where instead of getting asked more questions about my thought process and reasonings, each question felt more like personal jabs against me. If this was a problem, why would you even bring me on-site in the first place? However, it didn't end there. When we broke out into our 1:1 conversations, this same interviewer again started asking me the same questions. "Is there an unfiltered reason why you wanted to leave?" "How long were you at previous XYZ company for?" "Can you give me specific months?" I understood where this person was coming from, but it soon became extremely uncomfortable for me when this interviewer started asking me questions like, "how old are you?" "Couldn't you have found more information about the job before you joined?" "When did you graduate?" It felt more like an interrogation than an actual conversation. I did my best to answer his/her questions, but I left that conversation feeling more violated than anything else. While these types of questions regarding my background are important, the way which they were asked made me uneasy and uncomfortable. I have not had an interview experience like that before, and I am quite relieved that I got rejected. After that interview, I honestly wanted to end the entire process early and go home. I know that this is illegal, and I'm assuming that any form of age discrimination type questions is against the Civil Rights Act. I would definitely not wish that type of interviewing experience on anybody. I hope that interviewers at Roblox undergo proper training and education in the future

There were 3 main rounds: games, product sense, and then back to back technical case and behavioral interviews. The last round was the most ambiguous in terms of expectations, but you can partner with other candidates to practice mock interviews together.

      Interview

Very interesting OA, where you were given a few strategy-based games to complete. Although fun, it took around 1 hour and 30 minutes, longer than most other OAs. I think that it was easier and a lot more engaging than traditional LeetCode type questions.

One game wanted you to maximize profits, and another asked you to build different robots that passed an obstacle course.
