      Ecommerce Director Interview

      25 May 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Salem, NH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at RocketDrop (Salem, NH) in May 2023

      Interview

I applied for this role on March 22 then had my first screening call with HR within 10 days of applying. I was informed the process would move quickly with a two-step interview process with the hiring manager and then a panel at the end. I was told there was no salary range for the position but it was open for the right candidate. I was informed that they would cover relocation and that one month for relocation was acceptable given I currently live in San Diego, CA and the position is in Salem, NH (outside of Boston). I had the first interview with the hiring manager on April 3rd wherein I was informed that the process would be a three-step process but their target start date was the first week of May. Following the interview, HR inquired about my availability on April 4th then again on April 13th HR and then again on April 17th. On April 20th, I received an invite for another position (Brand Director) with the hiring manager on April 27th then an hour later it changed to April 28th. HR emailed me on April 26th asking me to be prepared to discuss 3 prompts which I was able to clarify that the invite was a mix-up. The hiring manager was late, he heard that I had a bit of a stuffy nose and asked if we could reschedule. We verbally rescheduled for May 3rd and he also asked me to prepare 5 different prompts. The hiring manager was once again late to the call on May 3rd, which caused us to run out of time to discuss his prompts (3 of 5 only). He was shocked I had not prepared a presentation deck to review, which was not communicated or requested at any point. He then advised next and last step would be a panel interview. I let him know that we have gone past the May start date (in-person role with no remote start) so wanted to inform him of my upcoming travel which would impact my start date. He brushed it off saying that I should continue to live my life. On May 11th I received 4 prompts that I should present on May 15th (only date offered) which happened to mean I should prepare over the Mother's Day Holiday weekend. I presented the deck to the executive team and hiring manager on May 15th. On May 16th I received a call from the hiring manager to discuss the details of my start such as an Airbnb for my first two months and start date. It was during this call that he expressed my travel dates were not "going to work" as well as my salary expectations being "too high". He asked if I was flexible on salary to which I stated no because the cost of living in the Boston area is substantially higher than in San Diego. He asked me to email him the travel dates and he would get back to me with an offer and a confirmed start date. I received a call from HR on May 24th advising that the executives had come around to the later start date. She would be writing me an offer before the end of the week but wanted to clarify the details of compensation and time off expectations (strange since that is usually set for all employees). Today I received an email from HR stating that they are going in a different direction for the position. The company has completely wasted my time by not communicating expectations on the start date or salary. They have been completely inflexible and inconsiderate of me during the entire process.
