I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Rolls-Royce (Derby, England) in Mar 2015
Interview
The interview was held at Derby County football stadium. There was many more candidates than I had expected but after chatting to a few of them I realised we were all from a similar background and in the same boat.
We were all led to a room where we sat in a VIP box overlooking the pitch. After a short while I was called into a separate room. I was quite confident to start as I had some previous RR working experience. After a very short period I realised things were going horrible wrong and I began to sink into my chair. The younger lad asking the questions was pleasant but sitting next to him the older man "Value Stream Manager" tore apart every answer I gave even arguing at one stage.
After the interview I was lead back to the room where we were split into groups and given a group exercise of making a bridge to carry a ping pong ball across 2 tables. That also went horribly wrong.
On a whole I am glad I did not get offered this job as that was my worst interview I have ever been to.
I was really struggling to understand how they could decide I was a good mechanical fitter from the questions they asked and the group exercise.
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Rolls-Royce (Derby, England) in Oct 2015
Interview
Applied through the Taleo recruitment site in September, the interview was held at the Derby County stadium in early October.
Two others and myself were there for the same position. We were taken to a room with other candidates who were there for different roles.
They had just completed their interviews and we were all ushered to a larger room for the group exercise.
The group exercise consisted of us being teamed off and getting ping pong balls into a cup between two tables. The assessors made us thoroughly at ease, good natured banter and jokes whilst we made rickety ramps out of cardboard.
The interview followed a standard HR template. If you hadn't properly prepared you'd be pretty much sunk. Again, both interviewers were very pleasant and personable.
A few weeks later I was offered an Inspectors job instead of the Fitter role which I accepted.
