I applied online and within a week was invited for an in-person interview. Initially, I was scheduled to meet on a Wednesday of the following week but was contacted by the HR manager on the Monday of to come in on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. I was happy to accommodate, but in honesty, I find it really unprofessional to schedule someone a week in advance and then ask the following Monday if they can show up the next day. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism did not end there. I met with the direct supervisor for the role, a team member, and the HR manager. The HR manager, in particular, was very confrontational and unwelcoming. While this is sometimes used as a tactic to see how the candidate will handle difficult personalities, I found it unnecessary and gave a negative representation of the museum. There was a point where I really wanted to just leave, but I remained polite and professional and concluded the process. It quickly became clear that it wasn't a fit and I would not be hired for the role. I never received a follow-up email about my candidacy status. After that experience, I was not exactly hoping for one.
