I applied online. I interviewed at Springer Nature (New York, NY)

      Interview

I applied online and received an email from a recruiter about 3 weeks later asking to set up a phone interview. The initial interview was very straightforward. I was asked about my background, my goals, my work style and my interest in academic/science publishing. They also asked a few logistical questions like salary requirements, earliest availability, location, etc. We set up a time for an in-person interview at their office at the end of that same week. There, I met with two editors, who started off by telling me about the company, the role of their specific department, and the responsibilities of the role. They described specific tasks to me, and asked me how I would approach them or apply skills from my previous work experience. I would recommend being specific as possible and using anecdotes from your other experiences if you have any. I think they were more interested in a candidate with a science background either in undergrad or other work experience, and I had none. The interviewers were friendly and seemed interested in getting to know me not just as an employee but as a person. They seemed like they were trying their best to make me feel comfortable and at ease. I received a rejection about 3 weeks later.

      Interview

A typical day in 2021 is very different to 2015. Currently we work from home and it's all instant messaging and virtual meetings but we're good at keeping in touch and have all the tools we need to do our job. When the Kings Cross office is open, we have good facilities and the people are nice. It's a global company so you my spend all your time talking with people remotely but there is a staff canteen and coffee shop so that you can also socialise with colleagues based in London.
