      Ramp Agent Interview

      11 July 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Swissport (Chicago, IL) in Feb 2013

      Interview

Applied online through Swissport's website and couple of days later I received a phone call from HR Department to come in for a interview. When I showed up to the interview, there were about 10 other applicants waiting in a small room. After waiting couple of minutes in the room with other applicants, one of the supervisors from O'Hare came into the room and spoke for about 30 minutes. In his presentation, the supervisors described working conditions, work requirements and other job related spheres. After the presentation, those who were still interested in pursuing this job were asked to take a ten minute break. After the break, we all came back to the room and individual interviews began. One by one all of the applicants were interviewed. The interview was not really an interview because the interviewers did not really ask any questions, they only restated what the job was about and asked if you were still interested. After you accepted an offer, you were given an orientation date and list of information you have to provide before you become a Swissport employee. The orientation lasts for two weeks, one week in classroom and one on the job training. The classes started at 10:00AM and lasted until 4:00PM. In the classes you learn the basics, such as how to use fire extinguisher, what type of vehicles you will operate and safety procedures. Each day you have to complete several quizzes, but these quizzes are easy because all of the answers are in the PowerPoints. As far as, the on job training goes, a new hire will be placed either on the ramp or the bagroom. The ramp is where crews service the airplanes, while bagroom deals with passengers luggage. The OJT lasted for 5 days from 10:00AM until 5:00PM for which we all got paid for. At the end of the training, new hires were given schedules and we began to work. The work is physically demanding, however once you are done with your flight you can rest all you want because you do not have to do any extra work unless asked by supervisors. In addition, there are plenty of opportunities for overtime. Finally, as far as work environment it seems pretty easy going and generally all of the workers are friendly and helpful.

      Interview

Quick and easy but it seemed like they hire anybody. The questions are super vague and it feels like they are trying to just get people in the door but they don’t care about retention
