Interview
I went for an interview a few days back for the position of marketing communications executive. The job description and the job on offer belonged to two different worlds. I don’t understand the logic of doing this. You are an organization known for targeting the market but here you are attracting the absolutely wrong kind of talent. Upon understanding that the role is entirely sales and calling I decided I will not be able to do the job. However I wanted to talk to the upper management taking the interviews in case there are prospects of a suitable job in the organization. But the lady across the table believed more in talking than listening. She cut me off whenever I tried to speak up about my job change or my understanding of marketing communications as a field. I had to eventually tell her that she wouldn't need to ask me some particular questions if she would let me speak. When she asked me my understanding of the job I told her what it was to which she seemed to agree but did not add anything. But, I also told her that there is a line in the job description which gives it a different meaning all together and that instead of the word ‘customers’ they should use the word ‘clients’ since it’s more clarifying. I told her this because I would not have come for the interview had the job description not been misleading. But I don’t think she took it very well since she said that she did not ask me to analyze it. I don’t understand how can I discuss about the job without analyzing it. Perhaps these are the kind of employees they want to hire. Her manner reflected unwarranted arrogance coz she seemed to be taken aback by the fact that some candidates can actually speak out what they feel is wrong.
The hr lady sitting on my side of the table probably felt that her department should not have simply copied the JD from the internet so she asked me to leave the JD amended by me on the table before leaving. Hope they rectify it and don't waste candidates' time.
