      Software Engineer Interview

      17 Nov 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Tesco (Bengaluru) in Nov 2016

      Interview

I have more than 10 years of experience and I was contacted directly by a consultant. Not sure what is the experience criteria in Tesco for positions. But I think they are not good in mapping experience with right positions and I have a feeling they do not pay very good compared to Product companies (at least at Engineer level) but still will call you for interview. The F2F interview lasted for more than 6 hours (including 1 hour lunch break and 1 hour waiting time) I got a an online link for aptitude and programming test which was for about 2 hrs 35 mins. Then got a F2F call. The call started on time but after the first round there was a waiting time because the interviewer was in a meeting. The waiting time lasted for more than an hour. Then there was another round with senior person in the team to see good practices in coding and software. Next round was HR round which a little different than the normal HR round in the sense that it had normal discussion about strength/weakness etc. The HR was talking as to have made their mind in making an offer and were asking for references of others/friends. But then just before I was leaving, I was told to come again next week for a coding round which I was not expecting but I agreed. Reached on time to give the coding round. I was given hackerearth link with a Dynamic Programming problem. The interview discussed the solution and gave hint to reach to optimize solution (as I had provided a solution which was heavy in performance). Then I was asked to code but due to less time and no API reference, the program kept giving some runtime error and then the interview said he would look at the code later and I can leave. HR said he would call me by 3-4 PM same day to update which never happen and I understood I was not selected. From first day of sharing numbers and asking fore more references for interview to getting rejected on basis of one problem, and not getting even a call to convey the same, shows the professionalism of the HR and the culture of TESCO.
