Last year I began a job search process where I spoke with 10-12 different companies. Toast was by far the worst interview experience I had with any company.
First, the recruiter bailed on our initial interview. After reconnecting the following week, I spoke with the hiring manager, who spent most of the interview bragging about his family's shipping yard in Cape Cod.
My next interview, with a member of the Executive Team, was fine and I was told I would hear back soon on next steps. Instead, the recruiter went dark on me. After 3-4 emails of no response, I finally let them know I was no longer interested in the role. Only then did they respond to let me know they were pulling the job rec.
I had heard from other connections that Toast was unorganized and lacked structure, but I had no idea. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, noting they laid off half the company and then immediately announced a massive funding round. The HR team needs to treat their candidates with more respect if they want to hire strong and qualified people.
