Difficult interview
Application
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Toast Inc in July 2023
Interview
I thoroughly enjoyed the interview process, and the hiring team is really communicative and gave great feedback throughout to help its candidates understand what they did well and what areas can be improved upon. They always followed through on what they say they will do. One thing that also stood out to me is that on the final day of interview, they give candidates up to $20 of a reimbursement for lunch, which is something that I haven’t seen but very much appreciate. It was also cool being able to speak Mandarin to another peer that’s currently on the team.

Question 1
Using the Challenger Sales method, come up with a pitch about the ToastGo2 handheld — it’s not a back and forth roleplay either
1st Phone interview with recruiter. behavioral questions
2nd Phone interview with hiring manager in Spanish (discuss sandler), behavioral questions.
3rd video interview with hiring manager, role play and behavioral
questions.
Bonus, paid for lunch on 3rd interview.
Initially, the recruiter called the wrong number and even attempted to cancel my interview, which made me feel undervalued as a candidate. Despite feeling that I answered all the questions well, I was ghosted afterward—no feedback or communications. The entire process felt procedural, not like a genuine search for talent. Frankly, this is not the first time the same company has ghosted me. Sad, I love the company, but the whole process has been a disappointment.

What are your top three priorities if you land the position
Thank you for sharing this feedback. I'm disappointed to hear that this was your experiencing interview with us, as it does not align to the standards we hold ourselves to. I will be sure to discuss this review further with the team so we can make improvements moving forward.
Had a 30 minutes phone screening with the recruiter, who was kind and helpful, as well as transparent about the company and the role. She showed curiosity about my previous experience and skills. It was a good conversation.
Thanks for your interest in Toast and for sharing feedback on your interview process. We wish you the best of luck, and hope you'll keep Toast in mind for future opportunities!
