I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at TrueCar (Santa Monica, CA) in Jan 2015
Interview
The interview process is fairly long. First, there is a phone call with HR, then you will get a challenge assignment and will interview through video chat, then there is an onsite interview. It is probably most important that you take the challenge assignment seriously. It is fairly long, so make sure you set aside a weekend or two to work on it, especially if you currently have a job.

The phone screen was just a generic walkthrough of my resume and then talking about possible projects that the company had in computer vision/machine learning. Proceeded to an on campus interview with one of the senior managers which took around an hour. Both interviewers were nice and took their time in explaining things.
