I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at U.S. Department of State (Washington, DC) in Nov 2018
Interview
I applied online through the student application portal in September for an internship in an embassy in Europe. The deputy counselor of the section I applied to reach out in mid-November to schedule a phone interview. I had a phone interview that asked standard behavioral questions and some more technical ones about the country I was applying to work in and the State Department's structure. I was also asked a question in the language of the embassy's host country. I was notified two days later that I got the job offer and only had 3 days to accept or decline.

Interview
It was not too bad. They brought me in sat me down and asked about ny background and interest in working for them. Overall very nice peolle. It was disorganized though.
I was very smooth and the interviewers were very nice. They asked some questions about my experience and were very accommodating even though I said I didn't have much experience it regards to the position.
