I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at US Army Corps of Engineers (New Orleans, LA) in Apr 2018
Interview
Very structured. 8 (plus 1) questions with hiring manager and Senior Civil Engineer rotating. Would repeat question once but not elaborate. Followed up the same day, a week later with additional information, and once again the following week without a response. Received notification that I was not selected via USAJOBS.gov. I don’t think I’d ever apply again because I found it disrespectful that I didn’t get a personal email or phone call rejection. In my years of experience with interviewing people and being interviewed it is common curtesy to notify all interviewees the outcome, especially when they follow up.
As a GS12 you’ll manage Project Delivery Teams (PDTs) and be viewed as a subject matter expert for technical support. Explain your experience managing PDTs.

Interview
USAJobs can be a bit confusing. Make sure you look for the “Direct Hire” postings. GS 11 is a staff level engineer and GS 12 is a project level engineer. If you don’t apply for the direct hire position it gets screened at Washington DC and you may be accidentally screened out even if you are qualified. One hour, virtual, simple questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Strengths, weakness, tell us about a time you had a disagreement with a coworker, finish up with “do you have any questions for us”. Be ready for a few complicated/technical questions.
