I applied in-person. I interviewed at US Navy (Louisville, KY) in Jan 2013
Interview
N/A. There is no interview process. The Navy has a zero tolerance drug policy. You get drug tested and they'll do a criminal background check. Unless you have a high risk issue the process is fairly smooth. Recruiters do lie ! Even when they claim to be telling you the truth. Do your research and ask military veterans about their experience.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at US Navy (Mesa, AZ) in June 2023
Interview
very lengthy, and thorough. you're going to provide pretty much all information from your entire life and some from your immediate family as well, including step anything you might have, and a background of your education. Just make sure anything a recruiter tells you you're going to get, get it in writing or it doesn't count.
Asvab testing provided a categorization of job opportunities, followed by physical exams that ensured ability to complete the job. Clearances were given based off historical references and criminal records. Must be somewhat proficient in computers

Interview
Long and drawn out, lots of tests and waiting. Best to understand what each job you are interested in is before going to MEPS as the job descriptions are not normally accurate. The people at MEPS are salespeople.
