Applied 8 months ago. Received a series of three out of the blue emails that looked like spam. The final one invited me to call a number to schedule a group interview. I flew to Houston and was told to meet a van that would take me to the interview location. The actual van ride was merely 5 minutes to the interview location. Once I arrived, they made the applicants stand in a line that snaked around the room in order to check in. During this time, we were told we could purchase a bottle of water for a buck if we were thirsty. Anyhow, I gave my resume to the person at check in and she wrote something on it I could not see. Then I walked down a line of recruiters and said hello and then the one at the end of the table gave me a page of information about the job. Next, we watched maybe a 3 minute trailer about United. Then, they announced we were going to be called individually into another room for a 1:1 interview with a recruiter. In the meantime, some former flight attendant guy was called in to answer any questions we might have about the job. there were about 80 people in the room and my name was called about halfway through. I was interviewed by a male, but almost all the other interviewers were female. I'm posting all the questions he asked in this super brief interview below. I was with him for less than 10 minutes. Then, he walked me out and said I would hear something via email (not holding my breath). Almost everyone was told the same thing. A lady I made friends with who interviewed after me said she overheard two girls saying they had been asked back for a second interview later in the day. The whole experience was bizarre. In my trip back to the airport, there were two former flight attendants in the reject van with me. So, I think it is really hard to know what they want. I have tons of CS experience and dressed super conservatively and I could tell the interviewer just didn't like me for whatever reason. If you read other FA interview reviews, you will see where people suspect that the airline reps are "watching" everything you do. I totally had that feeling and two of the people sitting there with the rest of us seemed to already be FA's. I was friendly and outgoing, as suggested, but it didn't seem to serve me well today. Also, another person I met at the interview suggested that maybe the "group" interview was when we could ask that fight attendant guy questions-he suggested maybe they were keeping tabs on who asked something and who kept quiet. Maybe that is the reason why they flew us thousands of miles and then didn't even act like the job was anything to be excited about. The process seemed unstructured and kind of thrown together. A few other things of note: My email said they were hiring for a class starting in July; they said the next available class starts at the end of August. You do not get paid during 4 and a half weeks of training. However, you do get $20 per day in per diem. The FA salary is $1600 month. This job is with Continental but United will pay you. You have to pay $100 to hold a spot in a training class if offered a job. You have to pay $720 for your uniform. This includes a suitcase. The only bases they are offering now are Cleveland, New Jersey and Houston. There is no guarantee how long you will be on reserve. The guy answering questions says some people have been on reserve 10 years! You have to pay out of pocket to relocate to the base. He also said it has become very difficult to use your travel benefits due to lots of people flying standby. Good luck to you if you want to do it. I say go for it, if you can go in that day and leave that day cause you never know! It was definitely an interesting experience. I would not go if they could not fly me that day and I had to pay for a hotel out of pocket. I felt sorry for people who flew in from Hawaii and Alaska and had to pay their own hotels. I'm sure it was a real let down for them to pay so much money for a seven minute interview. One last thing: some people in my interview also felt they were being observed by the FA's on their flight to Houston. Who knows if the co would go that far, but best to just be friendly and on your best behavior!
