I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Uplight (Vancouver, BC) in Oct 2019
Interview
Email to arrange a phone interview with HR. Then phone interview with a manager. Apparently that went well. Then an IQ test and personality test. Then an assignment time boxed to 4 hours then a 4 hour on site interview.
When I get to the interview I find out i was expected to bring my assignment on a laptop which I didn't have with me. That was the first bad sign. We proceeded to spend half of the interview time getting set up. The technical went well which was modifying my assignment in various ways. One cultural went well also.
At the end the manager who talked to me on the phone spoke with me for a bit. He was asking a lot of leading questions about leadership. I explained at this point, while I had team lead experience, my main goal was to improve as an engineer - however, I wasn't against the idea. He said in the interview that that wasn't what they were looking for and we left it like that.
I felt this could have easily been determined in the phone interview and I could have avoided having to waste a couple of days doing tests and the assignment.
I feel this company, based on this experience, might be a nightmare to work for. Also sensed that there are probably conflicts in management if the communication is that poor.
Interview initially canceled because of recruiter technical issues. Recruiter never followed up and ghosted the entire interview process. Interview is actually impossible to pass because recruiter is impossible to contact.
